I knew John when he was just a scrawny kid, always following us around on the farm. When he was home the last time, I remember thinking what an amazing man he turned into. Well spoken, thoughtful, proud of his family. He was so gentle with my son, that my shy boy climbed up into the tractor quite willingly with John's encouragement. I never look at the photo of my son without thinking about John and the person he had become.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends. Fortunately I've had the opportunity to share many great memories with John, many which my brother and I still laugh about to this day. All through high school and cadets the three of us where virtually inseparable. Shortly after John graduated battle school my brother and I followed suit. Though we lost contact after all these years we have not and will not forget about the impact he made in our lives, thank you John you friends Bedards

I had just recently met William and was surprised by his over the top kindness he extended to me. My most heartfelt prayers for him and his soul and for his family and friends. Hearing of this news broke my heart and I feel for all affected and all those close to those affected by PTSD. In the short time I knew him, he shared with me some things that may be nice for those close to him to hear ~ He believed his father to be the strongest man he knew and told me he strived to be that strong. That he wished he could follow him around and write a book to attain all the knowledge that his Dad has, but joked that that would take years. He said that he was working on a barn and hoped one day soon to bring home some horses. William shared with me his love for his children, showing me pictures and sharing stories - stating he was so proud of them, of how kind mannered and well behaved they are. He said he was excited for Christmas as he loves to put gifts in oversized boxes just to create excitement. He shared his love for his fellow soldiers and stated how he loved running into people he hadn't seen in a long time and catching up sometimes at the most unexpected times/places. He told me his favorite getaway spot was the look out tower on the hill down Grand Valley Road...perhaps a place those close to him can go now to seek solace when remembering him. We spoke of our beliefs of a higher power.... so now may we all find peace in knowing he is in a better place, free of all pain and worries. My sincerest condolences. ~ Janet R

I remember our many talks after accidently wounding Bawden, which was a miracle in itself. It was a long journey TF309, and was blessed to have gotten to see you in Shilo as well after being with the MPs for a little while. I remember arguing quite intensively with the one MP who wouldn't let me in to see you. Had to get the chain of command to order her to stand aside, and finally the next day could see you in cells. I know, from my faith, God's peace is surrounding you and he heals all wounds, visible and invisible. I pray for your family and children. God bless, Capt the Rev (Padre) DW Bos TF309

I remember Will being an energetic young soldier who was eager to learn new and exciting things. He embraced being in the PPCLI and always had a smile on his face.
I instructed on his Battle School course and although he was in another section, it was exciting to see him emulating his section commander and his section 2i/c. When I got posted back to 2VP in 2001, he made a point of welcoming me to the battalion - even though I was posted back to the battalion I was in Germany with and later posted to Winnipeg with.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, children and the rest of his family. My condolences also go out to his brothers in 2VP.
Rest in peace my friend.
Bill Aitken,CD1
Sgt (Ret'd)
