Obituary of Gordon Harvey

HARVEY: With great sadness, the family of Gord Harvey announce his passing on April 11, 2013 at the Assiniboine Centre (age 52) after a courageous battle with cancer. Gord was born in Chilliwack, BC on June 16, 1960. His childhood years were spent as an army brat and he lived in British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba and Germany. After completion of high school at CFB Shilo, he lived his adult life in Brandon, MB. He married Maxine Irvine in Rapid City, MB on September 1, 1984 and they shared a devoted life together. Gord was very proud of son Chris, born in 1989. They were Wheat King season ticket holders, attended many Blue Bomber football games and Grey Cup games-including the 2012 Grey Cup in Toronto being the highlight. Gord was equally proud of his daughter Becky, born in 1991. He spent hours teaching her to drive her new standard car. He danced with her at any chance he got. He was ecstatic with the birth of grandson Mason in 2009 and granddaughter Charlee in 2012. Life for Gord was always full of adventure. He loved music, especially Classic Rock. Many strong friendships were made at the Rock Festivals in Minnedosa, MB. He was one of the founders of Rockin the Fields of Minnedosa. The cabin was a peaceful escape from everyday routine. He relaxed by watching the birds, going for walks with his family and having camp fires with friends. He enjoyed feeding the squirrels. He proudly flew his Canadian flag on the cabin roof. Gord loved to travel and saw five different continents. His comment was, "I haven't been there so why not go." He organized trips to Britain, Europe, an African safari, Egypt, Las Vegas and Antarctica. His brother Tim was able to share the memories of Africa and Antarctica. Gord was very excited about the trip that he took with Maxine to Argentina in February 2012. He shared his knowledge of everything with anyone that wanted to listen. Gord had a good listening ear for his family, friends and coworkers. He loved to plan trips in detail for himself or for others. He searched the internet about planes, travel and music. Over the years, he played rugby, football, baseball, slow pitch, tennis, volleyball, curling and golf. He loved the game, Trivial Pursuit. He was employed at Coca Cola Bottling for 15 years and continued drinking diet coke for even longer. He then started work at Purolator Courier and was currently the driver in the downtown area. His coworkers and customers became his friends and they will miss his humour and big smile. Gord will live on in the hearts of wife, Maxine, son Chris, daughter Becky, grandson Mason and granddaughter Charlee, parents Ron and Marion, brother Tim, sister Sandra (Graham), nieces Jennifer, Melissa, nephew Tyson, father-in-law Charlie Irvine, brother-in-law Blair Irvine, godson Shane Wellborn, several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. We are grateful for the happiness he brought to our lives. We sincerely appreciate the love and support shown to us over these last four months. Predeceased by grandparents Frank and Mary Horne, Gordon and Mae Harvey, mother-in-law Florence Irvine and his best friend Brent Wallcraft. The celebration of Gord's life will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, Brandon, MB on Saturday April 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Should friends so desire, donations are welcomed to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, 1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or https://www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca Gord, you are always on my mind, forever in my heart.
