Obituary of Douglas Brolund

Douglas Ferdinand Brolund passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2026 in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 86. He was born May 15, 1940 to parents Ferdinand and Angeline Brolund in Swan River Manitoba. Douglas moved with his parents and siblings to Brandon in 1951. In 1958, Douglas met Margaret Anne Mackie whom he would marry on September 5, 1960. Their first son Trevor was born in October of 1962, followed by their second son Trent in December of 1970.

His natural artistic talent was recognized at an early age. The encouragement he received helped foster a lifelong passion for the arts that included oil and water colour painting, pen and ink drawing and sculpture. He worked as an artist for years, hosting annual art shows at the family home, as well as shows at numerous art galleries. Additionally, he taught art classes locally and throughout South Western Manitoba. A childhood love of music resulted in him learning to play the drums. He went on to play in a number of groups with performances both in local venues, and throughout the prairie provinces. Over the years, forays included building a woodworking shop where he explored lathe work, cabinetry, antique restoration and carving. The purchase of a motorcycle became the impetus to start an independent motorcycle shop

which had him relocate to the country, and continue the business for some 25 years.

Retirement found Douglas and Anne moving back to the city to a home overlooking Rideau Park. Further focus on artwork, with painting and fibre art, as well as, a continued love of music in the form of singing filled the days for a number of years. He became a voracious reader in his final years, exploring a variety of topics ranging from cultural theory, to regional conflict, injustice and philosophy. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Anne, sons Trevor (Anna), Trent (Shaunene), grandchildren, Chloe and Luke, as well as siblings Nola (Cal), Jay (Patti) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Ferdinand and Angeline and siblings Velmore and Vaughn. He will be greatly missed by his soul mate Anne, and forever in the hearts of his family and friends. A come and go memorial reception will be held at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre, Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, 332 - 8th Street on Friday September 4, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
