Obituary of David Stephen Clement

DAVID “DAVE” STEPHEN CLEMENT

After a joyful Christmas with his beloved family at home, a caring gentle soul found a restful peace on Jan 2, 2026. Born Aug 17, 1945, Dave was the eldest son of Harold Dixon Clement and Annabelle Clement (née Hutton). With the exception of four years in Calgary, Dave proudly called Brandon his home.

His main focus was on his family and friends. Dave was a devoted husband of 55 years to his wife Alison, a loving father to Christy (Carl) Chandler and Ryan Clement, and a doting fun-loving Grandpa to Abigail and Gwendolyn Chandler. He was an exceptionally caring son-in-law who made a point of including Freda Scott in all of the family adventures. Dave lived life in full colour, ready to jump right in to volunteer, to tackle any problem, and approach all projects with ingenuity, excitement, and skill—a craftsman in so many trades. He viewed life with a sense of humour with a good Dad joke always on hand.

Dave always supported his children in their activities taking on coaching or leadership roles. He loved to share his passions in life such as classic cars, sailing, boating, travelling, winter sports, woodworking, wine-making, and artistic projects. Whether he was cruising the shores of Pelican Lake or down the streets of Brandon in his hot red Corvette, Dave enjoyed life in the sun. He held many lifelong friendships which enriched his life with memorable adventures and get-togethers—good music, good friends, and good times.

Dave taught for 33 years, mainly at Crocus Plains High School. With his kind and genuine nature, he treated students with tolerance and patience. Former students would often seek him out and excitedly share their stories. Like a true science teacher, he embraced new ways of learning, innovation, and discovery. He had a passion for architecture and construction, designing and building three houses and a cottage. He was an active member of the Kinsmen, K40, the Pelican Yacht Club, and was always willing to volunteer his time to serve the community.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Duncan for his compassion and care for Dave over many years. Appreciation also goes to those close neighbours and long-time friends who helped us navigate this journey. A special thanks to his sailing mate, Doug Paterson, for the many antics and adventures they enjoyed together, and for his support as Dave faced his final health challenges.

Following Dave’s wishes, a private interment will take place at St. Matthew’s Cathedral columbarium.
