Lyle Clarence Beattie, husband of the late Marian Beattie, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2025 at the age of 77 years, with his family by his side. Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Heather (Bob Kirk) and Colleen. Lyle was born in Russell, Manitoba, in July, 1947, and resided outside the small village of Makaroff (northwest of Roblin).

Lyle was raised a busy farm boy in his childhood, and after high school, he attended the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and initially received a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. At university, he met Marian Hamblin while both were residing at university residences.

After graduating, Lyle moved to Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, for a couple of short but formative years and worked with a financial/insurance company. Marian soon followed out to Vancouver and they were married in May, 1971.

Shortly after getting married, Lyle and Marian returned to Winnipeg, Manitoba. While Marian was in the infancy of her teaching career, Lyle returned to university and received his certificate in teaching. They moved to Souris, Manitoba, in 1973, where Lyle began his teaching career, which he did for almost 30 years. Daughters, Heather (1974) and Colleen (1977) followed along to complete the family of four.

Lyle’s teaching career largely focused on history, social studies, law, and business/accounting. He was always keen to help students who had struggles with learning – he was always “rooting for the underdog”. Besides teaching, Lyle had a dynamic passion for Canadian history, archeology, World War history, and travel.

Speaking of travel, Lyle and Marian enjoyed multiple and lengthy trips to Europe, their first trip being in 1984,  Australia, Asia, and the Middle East. They also went on many cruises, which included South America/Panama Canal, Alaska, and others. Lyle also loved this “snowbird” era of retirement. Lyle and Marian spent many winters in Arizona, where they proudly owned a home in Yuma, Arizona. Both were thrilled to meet so many new friends during their snowbird/American adventures.

In 1994, Lyle and Marian relocated to Brandon, Manitoba, where they made so many close and lifelong friendships on Marquis Drive and Marquis Crescent, while maintaining longstanding friendships with those in Souris and many other areas of Canada, the United States, and other countries. Lyle also bonded with so many other people through his volunteer endeavours and through his cherished “coffee gang”.

Burial was held shortly before Lyle’s celebration of life, which was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on April 25, 2025.

Donations in Lyle’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St. Clair Ave W, Suite 300, Toronto, ON, M4V 2Y7 or to the MS. Society, 1465 Buffalo Pl#100, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 1L8.
